In light of the wave of popular uprisings against authoritarian rule across the Arab world the BMedia Collective along with Oregon Jerico will be hosting a special screening of the Battle of Algiers as the next installment of our Cine Club film series.
Directed by Gillo Pontecorvo in 1966 The Battle of Algiers is a semi-fictionalized account of the Arab uprising against French colonial rule in the 1950s and 60s dubbed the Algerian War. It touches on themes of struggles for national liberation, the use of torture in counter insurgency operations and the slippery slope of using terrorism as a tactic in social change. It is highly acclaimed and is featured on several “Best Movie of All Time” lists.
To accompany the feature film BMedia will show two of our recent shorts on the Egyptian uprising. We also will be holding a community discussion in conjunction with several co-sponsoring organizations on what the wave of popular revolt across the Arab world means globally and locally.
The Struggle continues…Come check out the classic film with B Media and see some sneak peaks of their new video clips on the Egypt uprising
7PM Tuesday March 1st at the Variant 4810 NE Garfield.
