The first PMA happened in Portland this past weekend. The assembly was a response to a call from organizers of the USSF for local social justice groups to form local working circles. For the first attempt at a new form of colalborative organizing in Portland, the assembly was a success in the mere fact that it happened.
Two resolutions were passed. The group of 28 organizations agreed to meet again, after an evaluation of form for the next meeting, and a we all agreed to support Reclaim‘s proposal to take direct action against homelessness, an historic agreement that means while all of our organizations might not engage in direct action, we legitimize it as a tactic, and can see all of our struggles –from economic justice, to anti-racist work, to climate change, to community media– as related to the struggle reclaim aims to address.
